Matt Bloomfield is set to succeed Rob Edwards at Luton and is expected to be appointed manager of the Championship club within the next 48 hours.

Luton made an approach to Wycombe at the weekend, which is understood to have been accepted, with talks underway to finalize the move. Bloomfield is under contract at Wycombe until the summer of 2026.

Edwards left Luton last week after four consecutive defeats which left them 20th, two places and two points above the relegation zone. Luton had been reluctant to part ways with Edwards, who led the club to promotion to the Premier League in his first season, but both parties felt it was the “right time” for him to move on .

Luton identified Bloomfield as the ideal candidate after being impressed by his work at Wycombe and Colchester, his first managerial role. Wycombe, second in League One, were top at the start of the year after an extraordinary start to the season, but Bloomfield are expected to continue their coaching career in the Second Division. He was interviewed for the job at Millwall but did not take the opportunity.

Luton assistant managers Paul Trollope and Richie Kyle, who have both joined Edwards at Luton, are set to leave, allowing Bloomfield to bring in their team from Wycombe.

Wycombe are also preparing to battle to retain their coveted striker Richard Kone, who has scored 13 goals in the Third Division this season, amid keen interest from Championship clubs. The 21-year-old has been a revelation since joining ninth-tier Newham Athletic after a successful trial 12 months ago. Welsh defender Joe Low is a target for Swansea City.
