Spaniard Luis Masaveu, last year’s US Amateur semi-finalist, has signed with Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs team in the LIV Golf League, the Saudi-backed series announced on Friday.
The 22-year-old from Madrid turned professional three months ago after a 2024 campaign that also included his second low amateur trophy at the Spanish Open and becoming the first Spanish amateur to qualify at the British Open.
“We’re excited about him,” Fireballs captain Garcia said. “He’s a very good young Spanish player, exciting. Lots of potential.”
Alongside 2017 Masters champion Garcia and Masaveu, his compatriot David Puig and Mexican Abraham Ancer are part of the team.
“Coming in and playing with the big guns, I think it will be a good learning experience,” Garcia said. “We’re going to be there to support him, encourage him and make sure he can enjoy his game and play the way he can play.”
Masaveu is looking forward to playing alongside childhood idol Garcia.
“It’s amazing. It’s awesome,” Masaveu said. “I’ve been watching him since I was a kid, he’s won the Masters and the Ryder Cup, so it’s just amazing.”
